PEORIA Ill. (WMBD) -- Limestone Township Fire Protection District is the first in Peoria County to announce a burn ban.
A Facebook post on the Limestone Fire Department's page said the ban went into effect on Sept.16 and extends through Sept. 22, when conditions will be evaluated and it may be extended.
The burn ban prohibits all residents of the Limestone Township Fire Protection District from any open burning. The ban includes things like landscape waste, agricultural waste and fire pits.
By law, fire departments have the authority to impose fines for violations of a burn ban.
