SHAWANO, Wis. (WBAY) - A new park in Shawano officially opened on Monday.

Christened by Father Edward Looney, school kids at Sacred Heart Catholic School couldn’t wait to give the new equipment a spin.

This new park is named after the catholic church’s newest saint, Carlo Acutis.

Saint Acutis passed away in 2006 at the age of 15 from leukemia.

He was known for his devotion to the Eucharist and his use of digital media to promote catholic devotion.

Saint Acutis was canonized on September 7.

Sacred Heart Catholic School is the first school or parish in the Diocese of Green Bay to have something officially named after the newest catholic saint.

“He was a guy who enjoyed life and had fun. Giving them a role model, you know, saint-like,” Father Edward Looney said.
