During the longest meeting in at least the last five years, the Abilene City Commission handled a plethora of items in their Sept. 8 meeting.

Outside of the discussions involving the 2026 budget and riding luxury golf carts on streets, the commission approved several items involving the sports complex project and updating the city’s traffic codes.

Oaths

To start the meeting, the new Abilene Police Chief Jason Wilkins and City Finance Director Kelsey Braind swore oaths for their positions, and Wilkins received his chief badge as well.
