LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Over the years, families have contacted 7 News about bullying in area schools.
Often, because of student privacy laws, the district is unable to address those situations publicly.
Families Helping Families Executive Director Susan Riehn said families are unsure about what steps to follow if their child is being bullied.
“I feel like we have the polices in place, I feel like families don’t understand the policies and don’t know how to find them,” Riehn said.
According to the National Center for Education Statistics, about one in five children reports being bullied nationwide.
Riehn also said bullying remains one of the biggest concerns for parents.
