MAINE, USA — Planned Parenthood clinics in Maine and nationwide won't be able to receive insurance payouts for any of the health care services they provide to patients who have Medicaid following a first circuit court of appeals ruling last Thursday.
The appeals court overturned a preliminary injunction put in place in late July by a judge in a lower-level court after the Trump administration included provisions to defund Planned Parenthood in the H.R. 1 tax bill. Officials from the administration have stood firmly against the spending of federal dollars on any organization that provides abortion care.
Planned Parenthood of Northern New England Vice President of Public Affairs Lisa Margulies said their clinics are often the first and only providers their patients see in an entire year.
