LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
A Louisville family is turning their daughter’s fight against cancer into a movement to fund research and bring hope to other children.
In June 2023, 4-year-old Annie Flieger suddenly fell ill.
“She got sick. We thought she had strep throat, so we took her to the pediatrician. She tested negative for everything. They sent us home. Said snuggles. She’ll feel better,” said her mother, Ellie Flieger.
The next day, Annie couldn’t walk. Months of uncertainty followed.
“It wasn’t until December that we found out that she had B‑cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. So we started treatment the day after Christmas when she was 2 years old,” Flieger said. “It’s just gut-wrenching, you know, not knowing. Not knowing what the future holds.”
