COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine ordered that state and American flags be lowered on Saturday at the Ohio Statehouse and at all public buildings in Cuyahoga County.
The flags will fly at half-staff in honor of former U.S. Representative Mary Rose Oakar, who died last Saturday at the age of 85.
The Democrat politician served in Congress from 1977 to 1993 and was a trailblazer throughout her career. Rose Oakar was the first woman from Ohio in the Democratic party to be elected to Congress.
Flags will remain lowered from sunrise to sunset on Saturday for Rose Oakar's funeral.
