UNIONTOWN, Ohio (WJW) - A new directive barring coaches from leading students in prayer at Lake Local Schools in Uniontown is sparking some controversy and debate.

At the school board meeting Monday night, multiple parents and students with opposing views addressed school leaders.

“No one should feel pressured or influenced to think in a certain way,” said Natalie Laymon, a high school junior.

“Even if you don’t want to pray, here is your solution -- don’t,” rebutted Grace Swihart, a high school senior.

Swihart started a change.org petition called “Put Me in Coach I’ll Pray” that’s received over 1,100 signatures in 48 hours.
