FROSTPROOF, Fla. (WJW) - Sheriff's deputies are investigating after a man drowned in a Florida lake on Sunday afternoon.
According to Polk County Sheriff's Office, the drowning happened at Lake Clinch in the city of Frostproof. Deputies responded to a boat ramp on 7th Street just before 2:30 p.m.
Witnesses told investigators that the victim, later identified as 52-year old Pierre Richard Plourde, had docked his boat near the boat ramp before walking over to the pavilion.
"A short time later, Mr. Plourde noticed his boat was drifting away, so he went into the water to retrieve his boat," the sheriff's office said in a press release.
Witnesses said Plourde started having trouble in the water and yelled for help before disappearing underwater.
