(FOX40.COM) — The city of Modesto is racing to find a replacement for a major program that’s helped the homeless for two decades.
Downtown Streets Team, which is a nonprofit that has provided job training, case management and pathways to housing for homeless individuals, is set to shut down by Oct. 31.
“Downtown Streets Team really worked directly with our homeless population to give them a sense of purpose,” Modesto’s community and economic development director, Jessica Hill, said. “Through the job training component and litter abatement, they were able to have that purpose and have somewhere to go to and the building of a community.”
The organization serves across 16 communities, but officials say some challenges have made it impossible to continue.
