A person has died and six others, including five police officers, have been hospitalised following a suspected carbon monoxide leak at a restaurant in north-west Sydney.

Emergency services were called to the corner of Garfield Road and Railway Terrace in Riverstone just after 9.15am on Tuesday after reports of a gas leak inside the venue.

NSW Police confirmed the death, while NSW Ambulance said it was suspected the gas was carbon monoxide.

Five police officers and a member of the public were taken to Blacktown Hospital in stable conditions.

One other civilian had their symptoms checked at the scene.

Hazmat firefighters remain on site as investigations into the source of the leak continue.
