CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio -- An 84-year-old quilt maker continues to sew up support and awareness for cancer research in the face of $185 million in federal budget cuts at the Cleveland Clinic.
Two quilts by Sandy Jones -- stitched together from cancer doctors’ donated neckties, head coverings and a box of spare T-shirts -- will be auctioned off during the Climb Cleveland fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Wolstein Center.
“It means everything to me to be able to help in some small way by doing something I love,” Jones said.
She had wondered for months how she could help cancer patients who might be impacted as federal dollars supporting research programs dry up.
