DARE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - All lanes of Highway 12 on the Marc Basnight Bridge are back open after high winds blew off a modular home from its trailer yesterday afternoon.

The Highway Patrol says it happened around 1:40 p.m. when the wide load was about a half-mile from the south end of the bridge near Rodanthe.

Troopers say high shear winds, reaching speeds of 65 to 70 miles per hour, caused the mobile home to overturn, landing on the bridge rails.

Crews were on the bridge working to remove the home yesterday, but high winds made the recovery process difficult and dangerous.

After several hours, all lanes of Hwy 12 were reopened from the Oregon Inlet Campground to the Bonner Bridge Pier around 9 p.m. yesterday, according to the NCDOT.
