An arrest warrant has been issued by a Kenyan High Court for a former British soldier in connection with the murder of a 21-year-old mother in 2012.

Agnes Wanjiru was found dead in a hotel septic tank in her Kenyan hometown, Nanyuki.

In 2018, an inquest concluded that she was murdered by one or more British soldiers based in the area.

Judge Alexander Muteti said there was sufficient evidence to compel the UK citizen to appear before the court on a charge of murder.

Agnes' family welcomed the news in a statement issued by law firm Leigh Day.

"We have lived with the pain of Agnes' death for over a decade, they said.

"The reports that an arrest warrant has been issued against a UK citizen is a significant moment for us and is incredibly welcome.
