DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers have recalled left-hander Brant Hurter from Triple-A Toledo in the first of what could be a flurry of moves this week.
Right-hander Brenan Hanifee was optioned to Toledo in a corresponding move.
The timing of the transaction, officially posted Monday, means Hanifee will be unavailable for the rest of the regular season unless he replaces an injured player. He could still return for the postseason.
Hurter’s return gives the Tigers a third lefty in the bullpen against the lefty-heavy lineup of the Cleveland Guardians. Other moves could be on the horizon: veteran relievers Paul Sewald and Kyle Finnegan are expected back soon, perhaps as early as Tuesday, while outfielder Matt Vierling is also nearing a return.
