A senior South Australian police officer is under investigation over social media posts celebrating the assassination of controversial US political activist Charlie Kirk.
South Australian Police have launched an inquiry into the comments made by the 34-year veteran of the force, who is understood to be a sergeant.
The officer, described as a prolific user of social media, posted on Facebook about Kirk’s assassination, writing: “Amongst all Gaza, Ukraine, Trump news, sometimes something wonderful happens.”
SA Police confirmed to 7NEWS it is “aware of the social media posts, and they are now subject to an investigation under the Police Complaints Disciplinary Act”.
Police said there would be no further comment.
Kirk, a 31-year-old married father of two, author and right-wing politi
