Michigan's Department of Treasury warned residents this week to ignore unsolicited texts requesting bank information, calling the texts another in a long list of scams referred to as smishing.

"This scam is just another trick in the cybercriminal playbook," Director of Treasury's Tax Administration Services Bureau Katina Litterini said in a release on Monday, Sept. 15. “Taxpayers who receive this bogus text message should immediately delete it."
