HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WETM) — A child is dead, and a Horseheads man is behind bars on Tuesday after troopers said he caused injuries to the child resulting in their death on Monday.

Christopher M. Woods, 27, was arrested on Monday, Sept. 15, on the charge of murder in the second degree, a class A felony, according to New York State Police.

Woods' arrest stems from the death of 3-year-old Finn Hopkins, who was pronounced dead at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, despite life-saving measures, troopers said.

Hopkins was taken to the hospital by Woods, his mother's boyfriend, after he was found unresponsive. Hospital staff got in contact with Chemung County Child Protective Services after they noticed suspicious injuries on the victim and a younger sibling.
