BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) – The next phase of New York City’s “trash revolution” is in Brooklyn, Mayor Eric Adams announced Tuesday.
City-branded dumpsters, dubbed ‘Empire Bins,’ will be placed across Brooklyn’s Community District 2, which includes Fort Greene and Clinton Hill. They’ll start at schools, then be added to high-density residential buildings next year.
The bins were first brought to West Harlem schools and mid- and high-density residential buildings. They’re a tool in the city’s ongoing war on rats, Adams said.
“Every day, we are making our city cleaner, safer, and a better place to raise a family, unless you’re a rat,” Adams said.
Properties with over 31 units will be required to have an “Empire Bin,” which holds about four cubic yards of waste. Buildings with 10-30 units ca
