BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) – First responders who made the ultimate sacrifice on Sept. 11, 2001, will be honored during the 24th annual Tunnel to Towers 5K Run and Walk in New York City on Sunday.
Runners will follow in the footsteps of FDNY Firefighter Stephen Siller, who ran through what is now called the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel to get to Lower Manhattan on 9/11. Siller, who was supposed to be playing golf that day, lost his life helping to rescue people trapped inside the Twin Towers.
