LAURENS, S.C. (WBTV) - A South Carolina lawmaker proposed naming a road in memory of the late Charlie Kirk, just days after the conservative activist was assassinated at an event.

The lawmaker, state House Rep. Luke Rankin, brought up the idea in a Sept. 13 post.

In that post, Rankin -- a Republican from Laurens County -- said he was committed to the tribute.

“It is essential that we honor those who have significantly shaped the moral and cultural fabric of our society,” Rankin wrote. “I strongly believe Charlie Kirk stands among those deserving of such distinction.”

“A meaningful and lasting way to honor his legacy would be through the designation of a roadway bearing his name -- a permanent acknowledgment of the principles he stood for and the influence he had on so many,” his post
