TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/Gray Florida Capital Bureau) - Florida is in the height of hurricane season, but for many families, the real storm is financial. A new report shows that the state’s property insurance reforms are not working as promised, leaving homeowners stuck with higher costs and more denied claims.

Lawmakers passed sweeping reforms in 2022 aimed at reducing lawsuits, which they argued were driving up premiums. But a new analysis from independent ratings firm Weiss Ratings shows the opposite is happening.

Instead of easing the burden, lawsuits are actually up, fueled by an increase in denied claims after major storms like Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
