An Oneida of the Thames First Nation man is charged with attempted murder and other offences following a shooting on the Indigenous community southwest of London.

Police responded on Sunday shortly before 1 a.m. to a report of a break-in on Oneida Road, where officers found a person with a gunshot wound. The injured person was taken to hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, Middlesex OPP said.

Ten hours after the shooting, Oneida’s administration posted on its Facebook account that police had located a male suspect inside a home and were waiting for a search warrant. The public was asked to avoid the area.

“Our goal is to bring this matter to a safe and peaceful conclusion. Further updates will be provided as new information becomes available,” the post said.
