SARASOTA, Fla. (WFLA) —The New College of Florida announced on Tuesday that it will commission a statue of Charlie Kirk to put on campus.
The announcement comes as universities across the country hold vigils and memorials for the slain conservative activist, who often held events on college campuses through his organization Turning Point USA, which has a chapter at New College.
“Charlie Kirk knew that universities are ground zero for free speech and the marketplace of ideas. These ideas are not luxuries, but the foundation of a free republic,” New College President Richard Corcoran said. “His life and tragic death remind us all that a nation cannot survive if it abandons these rights."
The public university wrote o
