ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —
People who love their pets are the target of the latest type of telephone scam.
Animal Humane New Mexico sent out a warning Monday about callers who contact people who have posted lost pet notices. They pretend to be their veterinarian clinics and demand money for emergency care to get the animals returned.
AHNM, a nonprofit organization that operates veterinarian clinics in Albuquerque, wants the public to know that they never ask for payment over the phone.
If you are a pet owner who gets a call from someone claiming to be from AHNM and asking for money, report it right away by calling 505-255-5523 or online at animalhumanenm.org.
