AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - We have an update on construction of the new Augusta arena.

The Augusta-Richmond County Coliseum Authority shared some new details in a meeting Tuesday.

The new arena – a replacement for the now-demolished James Brown Arena – will start to take shape very soon.

New hotel could be coming to downtown Augusta

A proposed hotel could be coming to Broad Street in downtown Augusta. If approved, it could go next to the Augusta Candle Co. and right across from Garden City Social.

The utilities work has been completed.

The new arena will hold over 10,000 people – nearly four times the capacity of the Bell.

A crew of about 80 is working hard and making the climbs to start the structure foundation for second floor of the new area, where suites will be located.
