LITTLE RIVER, S.C. (WBTW) -- One person has been exposed after a raccoon tested positive for rabies in Little River, the South Carolina Department of Health said Monday.
The raccoon, which was rabid, was found near Highway 17 and Pavillion Drive, DPH said. The person who was exposed was referred to their health care provider.
The raccoon was submitted to DPH for testing on Sept. 11 and confirmed to have rabies the next day. It's the third animal in Horry County to test positive for rabies this year.
