"I was a Red Sox fan and my hero, and probably my only life hero, a model of some kind was Ted Williams ... was and is Ted Williams," Redford said.
In the 1984 movie "The Natural," Redford's character wore No. 9 as a nod to his hero.
"Did he? I didn't hear that, but I knew he wore No. 9," Williams told WCVB in 1984. "But, you know, I'm flattered with that."
