JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) - The St. John's Fire District (STJFD) welcomes two new trucks to their fleet, bringing greater water access to fires in rural areas.
Fire officials traveled to Sumter, South Carolina on Friday for final inspections of their new locally-made, twin water tenders. The trucks were built by Safe Industries and FES. Each of the vehicles carry 3,000 gallons of water, going wherever there is a need.
"They're great looking trucks. I would call them beautiful if you like fire trucks. They have a lot of details that will get the job done," Ryan Kunitzer, fire chief for STJFD, said.
These water trucks will be the only two in the district, with one replacing the existing tender at Station 3 and the other going to Station 5. The fire engineers, who operate these vehicles, w
