People across Connecticut continue to deal with the invasion of the spotted lanternfly.

The spotted lanternfly is an invasive pest that has made its way across the entire state after two small populations were established in Fairfield County in 2020, according to the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station (CAES).

Gale Ridge, Ph.D., associate scientist at CAES Department of Entomology, said in Connecticut, they have been transported via people and cars.

"The females lay their eggs on any vertical surface, including vehicles, and so that's how they've been spread. What we've seen here in Connecticut is they've moved along the I-95 corridor and I-91 corridor as well."
