SALEM, Ore. - Gov. Tina Kotek has signed three significant pro-consumer bills into law this week, aiming to enhance protection for Oregon families.
Senate Bill 605 will prevent medical debt from appearing on consumer credit reports, a move that could alleviate financial stress for many residents. Brenda Moore, executive director of the Lane Council of Governments, emphasized the importance of this new legislation.
"With this new bill not reporting medical debt to a credit agency which has a huge negative on credit score, it can wind up in collection," Moore said. "While it's impacting our consumers ability to take out loans, to get a job or even secure housing."
Senate Bill 430 addresses transparency in online shopping by banning sellers from hiding mandatory fees in advertised prices.
