HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KSNW) — A working smoke detector helped a Hutchinson family escape a house fire unharmed Tuesday afternoon.

Fire crews were called to the 1300 block of East 7th Avenue around 4 p.m. and found light smoke coming from the roof of a single-story home. Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack and knocked down flames that had started in a bathroom.

Two adults, three children, and several pets were inside when the fire broke out. Everyone got out safely, and firefighters carried multiple dogs and cats from the home. No injuries were reported.

The fire left moderate damage to the bathroom, and the home is not currently livable.
