ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)---The New York Attorney General has released proposed rules on the SAFE for Kids Act— legislation aimed at restricting addictive social media feeds for users under the age of 18.

The legislation which passed last year, prohibits social media platforms from providing notifications to kids between the hours of midnight and 6am, prohibits minors from having addictive or algorithmic feeds, and allows parental consent.

Julie Scelfo, Founder and Executive Director of Mothers Against Media Addiction, shared some of the AG’s proposed rules.

"For users above the age of 18, social media companies must confirm the user is actually an adult before allowing them to access algorithmic feeds or nighttime notifications," explained Scelfo.
