BELLE PLAINE, Kan. (KWCH) - Corn harvest is in full swing in Kansas, and farmers are saying it will be a record crop thanks to heavy rain during the summer.
“We should be in good shape,” said Doug Hisken, a farmer in the Belle Plaine area. “Lots of bushels, we’ll have some contracts for good prices.”
Farmers started harvesting a few days ago, but they’re saying they have at least seven more days to go.
They say they hope to be finished by the end of September.
But recent rain has slowed them down, and upcoming rain may put them even farther behind schedule.
“It’s held us up here, because we couldn’t get started when we really wanted to,” said Hisken. “The ground’s been muddy, the grain’s been wet.”
