MADISON (WKOW) -- The Madison Police Mounted Patrol welcomed a new member Thursday, a 6-year-old Percheron gelding named Spirit.

The badge ceremony took place at Vel Phillips Memorial High School, with the school's cheer team and MPD members in attendance.

Weighing 1,900 pounds and standing more than 18 hands tall, Spirit is the youngest and largest horse in the six-horse unit. Officers describe him as playful and full of personality.
