A young boy who was seriously injured by a reversing car in Sydney’s southwest has been released from hospital after the incident killed a five-month-old girl.

On Monday afternoon about 3.30pm, the boy and girl were hit by a vehicle in a carpark outside Minto Mall on Brookfield Rd, Minto.

The 5-year-old boy was rushed to Westmead Children’s Hospital in a serious condition.

The five-month-old girl could not be saved after police performed CPR before paramedics arrived.

It was revealed on Monday that investigators believed a 35-year-old driver had intentions to move the Renault SUV forward, however it was still in reverse and drove backwards into the children.

Police said the woman was known to the children.

She was not injured in the incident.
