HOUSTON – A late-night fire tore through a southwest Houston apartment complex Tuesday, forcing dozens of residents from their homes.

Crews from the Houston Fire Department said they were called around 10:15 p.m. to a two-story apartment building on Holly Hall Street near the Texas Medical Center, where heavy flames were already shooting through the roof.

Officials said all occupants were able to escape before firefighters arrived.

At its peak, HFD said about 75 firefighters worked the blaze, which affected 24 apartment units, with damage reported in as many as eight to nine units. A second alarm was called just after 10:30 p.m.
