The Clark College women’s soccer team opened its season by splitting a pair of close matches last week at home.

Bella Rodriguez scored in the 52nd minute to give the Penguins a 1-0 win over South Puget Sound in the season opener last Wednesday. Madeline Johnson, a sophomore defender from Camas High, earned an assist.

Ella Lulich made five saves to earn the shutout in goal.

Lulich starred in Clark’s next match, a 1-0 loss to Tacoma on Saturday. The freshman from Silverton, Ore., made 16 saves to keep the match close despite the Penguins being outshot 27-8.

This week: The Penguins hit the road Wednesday to face Pierce College (0-4-1) before returning home to take on Centralia (2-0-1) at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
