Halton police are reporting improved recruitment numbers after reducing the length of their recruitment process by a third.
During an Aug. 28 meeting of the Halton Police Board, Sgt. Keith Nakahara of the service’s recruiting unit discussed changes made to the recruitment process.
He emphasized the struggle to locate good people is not something Halton police have been going through alone.
“This was a national if not international issue that we were seeing since the COVID-19 pandemic. There was a rapid decline in applications, we were no exception, and many police services were scrambling to try and hire more people,” said Nakahara.
“The question that intuitively came to mind was, how can we re-examine our recruiting process … How are we losing quality candidates during our recruitin
