A Santa Fe man who was arrested earlier this month now faces multiple charges, including murder, in connection with a fatal shooting in a Lopez Street home.

Police took Abel Maez, 37, into custody after a chase down city streets, and he has been held since then in the Santa Fe County jail.

The man whom Maez is accused of shooting and killing Sept. 6 has been identified in court records as Leonardo Zavala-Herrera, 40, of Santa Fe. Statements made to police by witnesses indicate the killing erupted from a sort of love triangle involving a woman who had dated Maez.

Police allege in a statement of probable cause Maez showed up at the home the night of Sept. 6 and robbed Zavala-Herrera at gunpoint, stealing a bag, clothes, methamphetamine and a pistol from him before ultimately shooting him
