ONTARIO, Ore — Ontario Fire and Rescue (OFR) tended to a vegetation fire off of Interstate 84, just over the Oregon/Idaho border, for roughly seven hours on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Sept. 16, around 3:15 p.m., the fire department was dispatched to milepost 375 to reports of a fire burning in the brush and trees east of I-84, according to a news release.

The fire, between the freeway and the Snake River, burned roughly four acres. A general page was sent out to activate off-duty OFR personnel.

One westbound lane of I-84 was closed during this time, and the Oregon Department of Transportation assisted in traffic mitigation. OFR was assisted by the fire departments from Fruitland, Payette, Nyssa, New Plymouth, and Parma.
