SUFFOLK, Va. — It was a special surprise in Suffolk this weekend for 9-year-old LJ! He’s undergoing treatment for leukemia, and on Saturday, he received a brand-new backyard play set.
The project is led by the Chartway Promise Foundation , which is celebrating 20 years of helping medically fragile children. Volunteers from the community, alongside Chesapeake-based Roc Solid Foundation , lent their hands to construct the playset at LJ’s home.
The gift is meant to give LJ a safe and joyful place to play, and to remind his family they are not alone on this journey.
The Chartway Promise Foundation and Roc Solid Foundation say projects like this are all about giving kids battling serious illnesses a chance to just be kids again.
