CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Mecklenburg County Sheriff Gary McFadden issued a public statement addressing recent criticism from former executive staff members , saying he feels "betrayed" by people he once trusted with his family's personal matters.
In a video statement released this week, McFadden said he had been repeatedly asked to respond to comments from former employees but had previously declined due to legal restrictions on discussing personnel matters. McFadden's response comes nearly a month after former Chief Deputy Chris Allen resigned due to what he called a "hostile work environment, harassment and bullying."
"The law prohibits me from talking about personnel matters," McFadden said. "But they have the ability to talk about personal matters, and they have the ability to be the victim
