NEW BRUNSWICK – Oscar Garcia admitted he was nervous as he sat in the New Brunswick High School auditorium on Tuesday night, clutching his meticulously prepared stack of notes typed in braille.

But Garcia, who hasn’t let shyness nor glaucoma hold him back from becoming a three-sport, National Honor Roll student, wasn’t about to let a case of nerves stop him from delivering his first report as the Board of Education’s new student representative.

“I knew the last student representative (Emely Cruz Memije) who did it last year, and she kind of told me about it,” the senior said. “I was like, ‘I don’t really know much about it.’ Then I looked into it and I was like, ‘I kind of want to do something like that, something that seems fun.’ But I’m still nervous, but I signed up for it.”
