DALLAS — Calls to “free” Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice are putting the former SMU standout back in the spotlight, more than a year after he pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a high-speed crash on I-75 in Dallas that injured multiple people.
Rice is currently serving a six-game NFL suspension for his role in the incident. His teammates, including star tight end Travis Kelce, have recently shown support by wearing “Free 4” T-shirts — a gesture that has drawn criticism from some who note Rice has yet to serve any jail time related to the case.
In July 2024, Rice pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five years of deferred probation. As part of that sentence, he must spend 30 days in the Dallas County jail.
