HOUSTON — The Texas Education Agency has now received 281 complaints related to educators' social media reactions to conservative activist Charlie Kirk's shooting death, up from 180 complaints reported earlier this week.

TEA remains "actively engaged in the complaint review process" but has applied no sanctions yet. The agency emphasized that employment terminations were decisions made independently by local school districts, not TEA.

District actions continue

Klein ISD fired an employee for what it called "senseless and completely unacceptable" comments about Kirk's death. Pasadena ISD called the alleged staff comments "inappropriate and insensitive," and said the matter was being addressed internally.
