Kitchener’s history, fans and leadership would make it an ideal host for the 2027 Memorial Cup.
So said Ontario Hockey League commissioner Bryan Crawford during his opening-week address on Wednesday afternoon.
The Rangers and Guelph Storm are solidifying their bids to host the marquee junior hockey event after being named finalists earlier this month. The winner will be announced in late November or early December.
“It starts with the fan base in Kitchener and the support the community provides that team,” said Crawford, who has attended numerous Rangers games.
“The fantastic history of the Kitchener Aud, of course, is unrivaled. The way that the team is operated by (chief operating officer) Joe Birch at the helm is fantastic.
“Kitchener would make a great host for the event.”
