EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Providence Mayor Brett Smiley officially has a challenger in next year's Democratic primary.

State Rep. David Morales announced earlier this week that he will be running for mayor of Providence.

Smiley joined 12 News at 4 Tuesday to share his thoughts on Morales and his upcoming campaign. He also discussed whether he would welcome the United States National Guard to Providence if President Donald Trump deployed them.
