BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - State prosecutors presented their case in Burlington on Wednesday in a high-profile 2023 attempted murder trial.
Authorities say Tovi Mesick had been temporarily staying with Stephen Furtado and his wife in their Salmon Run apartment when, on February 5th, Mesick and Furtado got into an argument after Furtado demanded that Mesick leave.
“He was just acting erratically. He was scaring my wife. He was acting in a way that I didn’t want him there anymore,” Furtado said.
Furtado told the jury he went upstairs to confront Mesick and that Mesick pointed a gun at him and shot him in the chest.
