CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The family of a man killed in April at Charlotte's transportation center has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the city and its private security contractor, seeking damages and pushing for improved safety measures at the transit hub.

Qualo Daniels, 31, was fatally shot when he was caught in crossfire as an innocent bystander at the Charlotte Transportation Center. His family has sued the City of Charlotte and Professional Police Services, Inc., which is contracted to provide security for Charlotte Area Transit System facilities.

The lawsuit seeks compensation for funeral expenses and Daniels' pain and suffering, but attorney Justin Osborn said the family's primary goal is preventing future tragedies through enhanced security.
